Executive Director Kathy FoleyKatherine Foley kfoley@sil-oh.org – Executive Director, joined SIL in November 2013. Kathy has been an advocate for persons with disabilities for over 40 years, working to increase access to community, influence program development, administration and implementation. Kathy has presented on the local, state and national level on issues impacting the lives of persons with disabilities and serves on a number of regional/state coalitions and committees. She is a licensed Social Worker with a degree in Vocational Rehabilitation from University of     Wisconsin-Stout. Her interests include knitting, reading and photography. Kathy lives on the west side with her husband and three cats.


Shannon MonyakShannon Monyak smonyak@sil-oh.org – Associate Director, started with SIL in January, 2014. She came to SIL with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Bowling Green State University and has worked with individuals with disabilities, promoting independence and community participation for over a decade. Shannon has additional experience conducting vocational training in computer and retail settings, designing and managing assistive technology and accessible computer labs, and providing support for high school youth with disabilities transitioning from school to post-secondary education.  Shannon oversees all direct service programs offered at SIL as well as maintains quality control within the agency.  Shannon enjoys being an active mother of two sons and is an avid runner.


Kelly Hickman khickman@sil-oh.org – Director of Finance and Human Resource Representative, joined SIL in 2013. Kelly comes to SIL with a Master’s in Business Administration (with an emphasis in finance) from Capella University. She is also the current Treasurer of the Ohio State wide Independent Living Council Board of Trustees. She is a success oriented, results driven professional with over 20 years’ experience, guiding and assisting organizations and individuals to achieve their goals through continuous quality improvement.         


Laura A. GoldLaura A. Gold, J.D lgold@sil-oh.org – is the Advocacy & Disability Rights Coordinator. She has more than twenty years of experience in providing advocacy, consulting, and training on the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), accessibility, housing, and disability issues. Laura has presented numerous workshops and presentations on various topics including ADA Compliance, Disability Awareness, Fair Housing, and TTY Training to agencies, businesses, and municipalities. Laura received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts and earned her Juris Doctor Degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in Cleveland, Ohio.


April HolmesApril Holmes –  aholmes@sil-oh.org – Independent Living Specialist, joined SIL in April of 2014 as an Independent Living Specialist. She strives to teach individuals with disabilities how to maintain their independence. She embraces the philosophy that independence is not always doing things by yourself, but being in control of how they’re done. She is a graduate of Cleveland State University and holds both a Master’s and a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. April works with our Transition program helping individuals transition from a facility back into the community. As well as working with our youth population, helping our youth gain skills to help prepare them for life after high school. She enjoys learning and exploring new things, helping others, and spending time with her family and friends.


Jessie Kankula


Jessie Kankula jkankula@sil-oh.org – Independent Living Specialist, started with Services for Independent Living in September, 2017. Jessie is a licensed Intervention Specialist with a Master’s in Education from Cleveland State University. She has worked with individuals with disabilities for more than 10 years. She has had additional experience providing life skills training, pre-vocational readiness, and working with a variety of assistive technology. Jessie enjoys spending time with her daughter, two dogs, and two cats.



Lisa MarnLisa Marnlmarn@sil-oh.org – Consumer Empowerment Specialist, has lifelong experience with a disability and has devoted her life to improving the lives of people with disabilities. Lisa has been with SIL since 1997. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Ursuline College and a Master’s of Education in Rehabilitation Counseling from Kent State University. Lisa has served on the Ohio Governor’s Council for People with Disabilities and numerous other committees. In Lisa’s spare time, she enjoys writing, reading, and sitting by the lake. Her life and independence are enhanced by her service dog, Tahiti.


Sunceraye PemptonSunceraye Pemptonspempton@sil-oh.org – As SIL’s Receptionist, Sunceraye is often the first contact with the agency. She is a “people person” and loves knowing she makes a difference in the lives of others.  As a licensed cosmetologist, she often volunteers her help to individuals living in nursing homes feel as beautiful on the outside, as they are in the inside.



Trina RoddyTrina Roddytroddy@sil-oh.org – Independent Living Skills Specialist  joined SIL in August 2014 with over 8 years of experience working in the disabilities field. She attended Moore Meditation Counseling College where she became a Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant. Trina’s socioeconomic background as a Homeless Management Information Specialist has allowed her to obtain a wide-range of transferrable skills providing program services promoting self-sufficiency and independence for individuals with disabilities. Trina is furthering her education in Business Information Systems at Indiana Wesleyan University.

Jacki Strombergjstromberg@sil-oh.org  -joined SIL in February 2019.  She looks forward to her new role as an Independent Living Specialist. Prior to SIL she worked for a pharmaceutical company in various roles including quality control, IT and training.  Jacki holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toledo.  She is an appointed council member of OSILC (Ohio Statewide Independent Living Council).  Jacki has 2 children in college, and several furry ones at home.
