Shannon Monyak began her career with SIL in January, 2014. Shannon is a graduate of Bowling Green State University, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. For the past decade, Shannon has dedicated her career to working with individuals with disabilities, promoting independence and community participation. Shannon has additional experience conducting vocational training in computer and retail settings, designing and managing assistive technology and accessible computer labs, and providing support for high school youth with disabilities transitioning from school to post-secondary education. Prior to her position as Executive Director, Shannon enjoyed success at SIL as the Associate Director and has significant experience managing teams, developing, implementing and managing programs, as well as sitting on the Leadership Team. Her work has helped to shape the current culture of SIL and she is excited about her newest role as the Executive Director as she plans to move the agency forward! When she isn’t at the office, Shannon enjoys family time and being an active mother of two sons and two dogs
Kelly Hickman

Kelly Hickman joined SIL in 2013. Kelly comes to SIL with a Master’s in Business Administration (with an emphasis in finance) from Capella University. She is also a current board member of the Ohio Statewide Independent Living Council Board. She is a success oriented, results driven professional with over 20 years experience, guiding and assisting organizations and individuals to achieve their goals through continuous quality improvement.

India Jones joined SIL in February 2020. India has over ten (10) years of experience in the medical field working with individuals who are elderly and individuals with developmental disabilities. She joined SIL because of her passion to help others. Her experience as a PCA Supervisor and Hiring Manager for Assisted Living Facilities has allowed her to obtain a wide range of transferable skills in assisting individuals with disabilities maintain independence and receive the type of care they deserve. India is furthering her education in Nursing at Bryant and Stratton College. In her spare time, India loves exploring the different art that can be found in the Cleveland Metroparks and in various art exhibits.

Sara K. Thomas joined SIL in 2020 as the Individual Services Manager. She has a passion for helping people thrive and live independently. She has a degree in Human Services and has dedicated 12 years to servicing individuals with disabilities as well as helping people in the mental health field. She has extensive experience with youth and has worked with this population in various capacities. She also has experience in facilitating psychoeducational groups, crisis intervention, and acute stabilization. She comes to SIL from Windsor Laurelwood Center for Behavioral Medicine. Sara is completing her bachelor’s in social work and hopes she will be able to use her experience and knowledge to be an asset to SIL and help bridge gaps for Consumers.

Laura A. Gold, J.D is the Community Services Specialist. She has more than twenty years of experience in providing advocacy, consulting, and training on the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), accessibility, housing, and disability issues. Laura has presented numerous workshops and presentations on various topics including ADA Compliance, Disability Awareness, Fair Housing, and TTY Training to agencies, businesses, and municipalities. Laura received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts and earned her Juris Doctor Degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in Cleveland, Ohio.

April Holmes joined SIL in April of 2014 as an Independent Living Specialist. She strives to teach individuals with disabilities how to maintain their independence. She embraces the philosophy that independence is not always doing things by yourself, but being in control of how they’re done. She is a graduate of Cleveland State University and holds both a Master’s and a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. April works with our Transition program helping individuals transition from a facility back into the community. As well as working with our youth population, helping our youth gain skills to help prepare them for life after high school. She enjoys learning and exploring new things, helping others, and spending time with her family and friends.

Lisa Marn has lifelong experience with a disability and has devoted her life to improving the lives of people with disabilities. Lisa has been with SIL since 1997. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Ursuline College and a Master’s of Education in Rehabilitation Counseling from Kent State University. Lisa has served on the Ohio Governor’s Council for People with Disabilities and numerous other committees. In Lisa’s spare time, she enjoys writing, reading, and sitting by the lake. Her life and independence are enhanced by her service dog, Tahiti.
Sunceraye Pempton

Sunceraye Pempton, as SIL’s Administrative Assistant, Sunceraye is often the first contact with the agency. She is a “people person” and loves knowing she makes a difference in the lives of others. As a licensed cosmetologist, she often volunteers her help to individuals living in nursing homes feel as beautiful on the outside, as they are in the inside.

Trina Roddy joined SIL in August 2014 with over 8 years of experience working in the disabilities field. She attended Moore Meditation Counseling College where she became a Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant. Trina’s socioeconomic background as a Homeless Management Information Specialist has allowed her to obtain a wide-range of transferrable skills providing program services promoting self-sufficiency and independence for individuals with disabilities. Trina is furthering her education in Business Information Systems at Indiana Wesleyan University

Jacki Stromberg joined SIL in February 2019. She looks forward to her new role as an Independent Living Specialist. Prior to SIL she worked for a pharmaceutical company in various roles including quality control, IT and training. Jacki holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toledo. She is a former council member of OSILC (Ohio Statewide Independent Living Council). Jacki has 2 children in college, and several furry ones at home.

Simone Jones joined SIL in December 2019 as an Independent Living Specialist. She received her Associate of Arts Degree from Cuyahoga Community College and her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Cleveland State University. A licensed Social Worker since 2019, Simone is currently obtaining her Masters’ Degree in Social Work at Cleveland State University. Simone’s background is primarily in customer service and childcare. Before coming to SIL, she was an administrator at a childcare facility. In her spare time, she likes to read and spend time with her family.
