Spring Cautions

As Spring is now here most start buzzing around in their daily activities. Everyone is eager to get going, to jump into action, and they start moving around their home and property with that new energy and excitement.

Sun, rain cloud raining

Just a word of caution and encouragement to keep in mind your personal safety. Walk carefully on that newly mopped floor, or over the water that came in on your boots/shoes after rain. People falling in the Spring is always a big reason for an increase in ER visits. While it’s frozen water or ice that causes many people to slip in the Winter, in the Spring it’s rainwater. You come into your house from the rain and go immediately to the basement to put something away or to retrieve something, and you slip on the stairs. The water on the bottom of your shoes is slick and you go tumbling down. You may not have a basement; it is just as slick walking on linoleum or tiled floors within your home. View this article as though there is a yellow caution light shining from it. A good idea is to keep a large rag in the front closet of your home or on a hook inside your garage door to the house. You can then grab it to sop up that extra water that’s tracked in on your shoes.

Man slipping on wet floor

Another possibility caused by the rain is when you’re walking across your wet lawn that’s soft and shifting as you walk, right until you hit the solid sidewalk that isn’t moving, it can be a little jarring and cause you to lose balance by its abruptness. By keeping in mind your safety first you can enjoy the spring and enjoy the fresh rain showers.
