Katherine Foley, Executive Director, joined SIL in November 2013. Kathy has been an advocate for persons with disabilities for over 35 years, working to increase access to community, influence program development, administration and implementation Kathy has presented on the local, state and national level on issues impacting the lives of persons with disabilities and serves on a number of regional/state coalitions and committees. She is a licensed Social Worker with a degree in Vocational Rehabilitation from University of Wisconsin-Stout. Her interests include knitting, reading and photography. Kathy lives on the west side with her husband and two cats.
Laura A. Gold, J.D., is the Director of Access & Disability Rights at SIL. She has nearly twenty years of experience in providing advocacy, consulting, and training on the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), accessibility, housing, and disability issues. Laura has presented numerous workshops and presentations on various topics including ADA Compliance, Disability Awareness, Fair Housing, and TTY Training to agencies, businesses, and municipalities. Laura received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts and earned her Juris Doctor Degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in Cleveland, Ohio.
April Holmes, Independent Living Specialist, joined SIL in April of 2014. She is a graduate of Cleveland State University and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. April is pursuing her Master’s Degree in Social Work also from Cleveland State University. She has experience working with individuals with disabilities from interning at The Cleveland Sight Center and United Cerebral Palsy. She enjoys learning and exploring new things, helping others, and laughter. Most importantly, April loves spending time with her family and friends.
Donna Lanier, Independent Living Specialist, started working with SIL in June 2012. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work from Cleveland State University and A.A. in Criminal Law from Cuyahoga Community College. Donna has over 20 years ‘experience in area nursing facilities which challenged and inspired her to explore other avenues of social work. Donna has experience in Health Care/ Geriatrics, Mental Health, Mediation, Anger Management, and dealing with the complex court systems of Cuyahoga County. Donna is married and lives with her husband on the eastside. She now works as an Independent Living Specialist and is very proud to represent SIL.
Lisa Marn, Consumer Empowerment Specialist, has lifelong experience with a disability and has devoted her life to improving the lives of people with disabilities. Lisa has been with SIL since 1997. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Ursuline College and a Master’s of Education in Rehabilitation Counseling from Kent State University. Lisa has served on the Ohio Governor’s Council for People with Disabilities and numerous other committees. In Lisa’s spare time, she enjoys writing, reading, and sitting by the lake. Her life and independence are enhanced by her service dog, Anna.
Kelly McDonald, Director of Finance, comes to SIL with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Cleveland State University and a Master’s in Business Administration (with an emphasis in finance) from Capella University. She is a success oriented, results driven professional with over 20 years’ experience, guiding and assisting organizations and individuals to achieve their goals through continuous quality improvement. Kelly has played a critical role in the administrative and planning processes for several county/private organizations and has experience managing budgets in the millions. Having joined the SIL staff in April of 2013, Kelly is delighted to have been afforded the opportunity to collaborate with some of the finest staff/colleagues in her career.
Shannon Monyak, Director of Programs, started with SIL in January, 2014. She came to SIL with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Bowling Green State University and has worked with individuals with disabilities, promoting independence and community participation for more than eight years. Shannon has additional experience conducting vocational training in computer and retail settings, designing and managing assistive technology and accessible computer labs, and providing support for high school youth with disabilities transitioning from school to post-secondary education. Shannon has three children and is an avid runner.
Trina Roddy, Office Manager, joined SIL in August 2014 with over 8 years of experience working in the disabilities field. She attended Moore Meditation Counseling College where she became a Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant. Trina’s socioeconomic background as a Homeless Management Information Specialist has allowed her to obtain a wide-range of transferrable skills providing program services promoting self-sufficiency and independence for individuals with disabilities. Trina is furthering her education in Business Information Systems at Indiana Wesleyan University.
Josephine Brown, Independent Living Specialist, joined SIL staff in February. She has a Master’s of Science – Leadership in Education Administration from Capella University, a Master’s of Science in Special Education from Cleveland State University, and a Masters of Arts in Christian Ministry. Josephine has extensive experience working with individuals with multiple disabilities in various settings. She believes that all individuals, regardless of their disability, should be afforded equal opportunity as those without a disability. Josephine is very excited to be part of the team at SIL.
